Climate Change

Parish and town councils can play a substantial role in the drive to reduce the risks of climate change.  The Sustainable Energy and Climate Change Act 2006 gave parish and town councils specific powers in relation to local energy saving measures, which will reduce greenhouse gas emissions.  Parish and town councils can promote and support community initiatives to reduce emissions.

Taking such action not only reduces the impact on the environment but can save parish and town councils money too in the longer term.

The DCLG has produced a guide for parish and town councils on the powers available to them, which can be downloaded below.
